Overview

The
Brand

The client approached me with a single brief: build a brand for a sportswear line. No name, no direction — just a product category and a target audience of Gen-Z urban athletes in Tirupur.

The name HoppIt was my decision. Short for Hopp-It — Quick Wear. The idea: wear it quick, move fast. It represents speed, agility, and ease — a sportswear brand you just throw on and go. The natural mascot for that energy? A rabbit. Fast, energetic, and immediately recognisable.

The challenge was making it premium without losing personality. The solution: refined display typography anchoring the wordmark, with a characterful bunny sitting on top of it — funny, bold, and confident at the same time. The concept was revised with a senior designer and approved by the client without corrections.

01
The Challenge
Starting From Zero
No existing brand elements. No mood reference. The client had a product category and a target audience — nothing else. The challenge was to define the personality, visual language, and identity system entirely through research and design thinking before a single line was drawn.
02
The Goal
A System, Not Just a Logo
Deliver a complete, scalable brand identity system — logo variants, mascot, colour palette, typography rules, and usage guidelines — that any team member could apply consistently without needing a designer present.
Design Process

How It
Was Built

01
Research
Market & Competitor Study
Studied 6 activewear brands operating in the Indian market — Nike India, Puma, Vector X, Wildcraft, ASICS, and Decathlon. Mapped their visual language, colour choices, mascot usage, and typography. Identified the gap: most Indian activewear brands either copy global aesthetics or feel too regional. HoppIt needed to own a space between the two.
02
Concept
Brand Personality & Mood
Defined three brand personality pillars: Energetic · Confident · Accessible. Built a moodboard around dynamic motion, urban textures, and bold colour blocking. The name "HoppIt" implied movement, agility, and a slight playfulness — which pointed toward a mascot-forward identity.
03
Logo Sketches
Ideation & Rough Exploration
Started with 20+ rough sketches on paper — exploring lettermark, wordmark, and icon combinations. Explored motion trails, jumping silhouettes, geometric H-marks, and mascot-integrated logos. Narrowed to 4 directions for digital development.

04
Digital Development
Vectorisation & Iterations
Moved the shortlisted 4 directions into Adobe Illustrator. Each went through 3 rounds of refinement — adjusting proportions, weight, and balance. Tested legibility at small sizes (app icon, label) and large sizes (jersey print, storefront). Presented options to client with clear rationale for each direction.

Client selected Direction C — the mascot-integrated system. The final logo combines a custom wordmark with a character mascot that embodies the brand's energetic, accessible personality. Produced in primary, stacked, and icon-only variants for different use cases.
